The Student Museum

My sister and I visited the Student Museum on February 21^st. There are signs directing you where to enter and as soon as you walk in there is someone at a desk that asks you to sign in, offers you a tour and has you pay the $5 fee per person. This Museum is located at 301 WEST 7TH ST in Sanford, FL. It was the first high school in Sanford which later became a grammar school. Now it is known as the Public History Center or Student Museum used as a field trip destination for classes studying history or education. There are 2 brick buildings that connect which both have 2 floors. It was very small compared to today’s schools and the floors made noise as you walked through the buildings. Outside there is a brick sign where the Sanford Grammar School Cafeteria stood before 1921.

The museum turned the old classrooms into Exhibits like the Global Village room, Pioneer life, The Native American exhibit, and Crooms Academy. There was one room that looked just like the classrooms looked from the original school. I thought that was unique, it took us back to that time. It felt like I was actually there. However, my favorite exhibit was the Georgetown exhibit on the second floor. Not only was it the largest but it was the most informative. It had a cafeteria and stage on one side and explained a lot of the history of Georgetown. What it stood for like family legacy, faith and opportunities. The Georgetown exhibit had items from that town displayed such as dishes, barrels and a school desk. I liked that the rooms were themed and we experienced, touched and felt the exhibits and not just looked at pictures from that time like other museums.
